With a thud, a worn newspaper settled on the filthy floor. He knew it was at least a day old, but this was a privilege few received here. For this one thing, his name still meant something.
Thin, pale fingers reached for it, worn silver eyes greedily scanning the parchment. Yet, he went no further than the headline before drawing a heaving gasp of air into a captivity-weakened chest.
The salvation he had hoped for, the chance his closest friend had once received, was gone…
One word had brought this fate, two words had sealed it.
Guilty. Avada Kedavra.
